Gujarat Handicrafts and
textiles reflect a love of Colour, an eye for design and form. They are the
expression of an initial artistic personality and rich cultural heritage.
The state excels in both quality and design of textiles, traditional and
modern. The larger variety mills are combined to produce a rich mingling of
colours and textures.
The widest spectrum of woven fabrics are found in the resist technique.
These range from patola, double ikat, to the bandhej tie and dye the woven
mashru and the resist or resist or rescrved printing on cotton and silk.
Day 8:
Bhuj.
Early start fo Bhuj. Visit to Anna Mahal Palace museum. In the PM we have a
workshop with master craftsmen in block printing using vegetable dyes.
Overnight Bhuj.
Day 9/10: Bhuj - Zainabad.
Zainabad is a wildlife sanctuary. We have a day of rest here, and optional
viewing of the wild ass and abundant wildlife.
Day 11: Patan - Ahmedabad.
Early start to Patan to see the famous Double Ikat Weavers and also the
Mushru Weavers. Continue to Ahmedabad.
Day 12:
Ahmedabad.
In the AM we visit the incomparable Calico museum. Optional visit in PM to
study in the student room, or relax.
Day 13: Udiapur.
Travel to Udiapur. Optional visit to a tailor/dressmaker in the PM.
Day 14: Udaipur.
For those leaving the tour they should have a day to relax or join the tours
programme. Morning visit to Miniature Painters and embroidery merchant.
Optional boat ride on lake, optional evening dinner at Lake Palace, own
cost.
Day 15/16: Udaipur-Jaipur.
Late lunch at wildlife reserve before taking the evening train to Jaipur.
For those leaving the tour take connecting flight for international flight
home.
