Parchina Museum BikanerThe princelly state
of Bikaner was founded by Rao Bika Ji in the year 1488 A.D. Since
the foundation of Bikaner, the rulers of Bikaner had a prominent and
glorious role in the history of India. "PRACHINA" is an effort to highlight the aristocratic patronage which thrived and survived in Bikaner. This museum hopes to build and develop a cultural center to revive the dying craft of Bikaner and amalgamate it to present life. Parchina aims to highlight the various living practice and objects of daily tradition-The camel hide Ustakari, Botanical paintings, silver korni work, silawat workmanship. The various representative work of these karigars and Ustakars have yet to get the prominence therefore Prachina will represent platform for folk performing art and workshop for crafts practiced in Bikaner. The galleries of the museum depict the glorious past in terms of costumes and poshaks. The peculiar style in term of kalabhut embroidery, Zardozi work, Badala work on ground of skill, resham, makhmal have all been displayed in form of Gaghara (Skirt), Short shirt like top(Kurti), short bodice(Kanchali), odhana (veli). This work symbolizes the past karigari which now is a part of disapearing life of Bikaner The ritual paraphernalia of worship is great example of festivity. The idol poshak was intricately made with hands. Mukuts worn by Devi or even jewellery shringar was observed very meticulously. The Kalidar Ghaghra made with hands is now machinwe made costumes. The ready availablity of objects dimininshes man made efforts hence the Mandir Gallery in Prachina transports human minds to the rich past tradition of hand made costumes. The vision of ancestral rulers boughts the modernization of cameras and photography came very early in Bikaner. Black and white portraits of young men and women in their traditional gear become very fashionable.Group photograhs of important events during the time of Maharaja Shri Ganga Singh Ji were greatly covered with the advent of photography. The patronization of
miniature painting ushered in a whole new concept of depicting
portraits of rulers, varied sublects like landscapes, Rasik Puria,
Raslila. Prachina protrait gallery is representation of the glorious
past of photography culture in that early days. |
