An affiliating and teaching university offering Arts, Sciences, Commerce, Business Management, Design and Fine Arts, Music, Theatre, Education, Engineering and Technology, Languages, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. The university also conducts an evening college and Correspondence Studies.

      Incorporated in 1882 at Lahore; assets and staff of the institution were divided in 1947, with those opting for India migrating to Shimla, where the University operated from the camp. In 1956, the University shifted to the Chandigarh Campus, Sector 14 is entirely occupied by the Panjab University; The campus was designed by Pierre Jeanneret and boasts some of his finest works, notably the Gandhi Bhavan, the library, the administration building and the student centre.
