Khadi Gandhi Gallery
|

Khadi Gandhi Gallery Successive to the
Gandhi gallery in Madurai, the Government set the
khadi Gandhi gallery up in Coimbatore on 15th of
July 1970. The gallery displays pictures of Gandhi
right from his birth to his death. Separate cubicles
are arranged for each phase in Gandhi' life, which
pictures all major events that occurred in his life.
There are interesting collections of rare
photographs titled 'Journey through Harijan Life',
'Family', 'Friends', 'Independence Struggle', 'Jail
Life' and "peace Talks'. Gandhi Jayanthi is
celebrated with grandeur in this gallery and the
collector visits the gallery during 'Gandhi Jayanthi'
and participates in the function followed by bhajans.

Forest College Museum |

The Forest College is one of the oldest of its kind
in the country. The Forest College is situated 3.5
kms north of the railway station of Coimbatore. The
college Museum is worth a visit. The museum
preserves the fossils of plants and animals. The
museum also has dead specimen of plants and animals
of rare variety. The specimens of plants and animals
are preserved in all stages. The museum also has a
special advisory counter offering service to promote
businesses related to plant husbandry. |

Bhavani Sagar Dam

The lower Bhavani Dam is located on the
Bhavani River just below the confluence of
River Moyar, at 16 kms West of
Sathyamangalam and about 36 km North - East
of Mettupalayam in Periyar District. It is
an earthen dam, constructed after India'
independence.
Alongside the dam there is a well-maintained
park with all amenities for children to play
around and an orchard that can be enjoyed. |

Government Museum |

The government initiated the museum in 1989. The
museum is situated in VOC Park Road, which bears the
remnants of various tribes of the place. The museum
is compartmentalised into 5 sections. The museum
bears fossil remains and age-old tools. The
megalithic burial materials, treasure trove
materials, ancient coins and decorative artifacts
are few among the rare things that are displayed.
There is a separate section for old rocks, minerals
& wood fossils and tribal medicinal plants.
Utilitarian Artifacts of Kadar tribes, Bamboo
vessels of Malasar tribes, bronze icons and
woodcarvings are unusual to see. |

VOC Park |
|
Among the many places that could be visited to spend
some leisurely moments, VOC Park is the most
appropriate place to go with children. The
Coimbatore Corporation maintains the park. The park
is dedicated to the memory of V O Chidambaram Pillai,
one of the Indian stalwarts in the fight for
freedom. Incidentally Mr. Chidambaram Pillai happens
to have affection for children. The place, with mini
Zoo, models of prehistoric dinosaurs, Children'
Train, Swing, Slider, Seesaw and other play
equipment, is more like an amusement park for the
children. The park has a stretch of grass patch
conveniently mowed to sit on. |

Spic Manjari
|

Spic Manjari is a super market for the garden and
other gardening accessories. One can buy ornamental
foliage and flowering plants from Spic Manjari. Also
in Spic Manjari there are sales of Garden inputs and
implements. Landscaping is one of their services and
they will also give guidence on maintaining gardens.
Plants are also available for rent in Spic Manjari.
Annual Garden Maintenance is also done on contract
basis by Spic Manjari. |
