Coimbatore
Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple
Built by Karikala Cholan, the temple is at its colourful best in
March, when the 'Panguni Uthiram' is celebrated. SHIVA, the
presiding deity of this temple is known as 'Patteeswarar' and his
consort Parvathi is known as 'Panchanayaki'. The temple upholds huge
statues.

The sculptures
that are on the walls of the 'Kanagasabai' clearly reflect the
eminence of the then sculptors. The statues of Gajasamhara,
Virabadra, Bikshadana, Oordhva Thandava, Saraswathi with Veena all
rival one another in artistic perfection. The temple is 7kms away
from Coimbatore and is situated on the banks of River Noyyal. The
temple is kept open for worship between 05.00AM to 12.00 PM and
03.00 PM to 08.00 PM. Bus routes are 2, 9, 14, 25, 35, 59, S3, S4,

Maruthamalai Sri Murugan Temple
Maruthamalai temple is 12kms from Coimbatore and the
presiding
deity is Lord Dhandayuthapani. Apart from steps, with resting
mantaps there is also a motorable ghat road to reach the temple that
is situated on a hillock. The temple was renovated in 1996 and a 'Mahakumbhabhisekam'
was performed then.
Special pooojas
and abhisekhams are done apart from the regular Kiruthigai. It is
considered as true that Lord Dhandayuthapani has performed a number
of miracles to help and to please his devotees. The temple is kept
open during 05.00AM to 12.00 PM and 02.00 PM to 08.00 PM. Bus routes
are 1, 11, 92, S12, S15, S26, etc.
Dhandumariamman Temple
The Temple's
history dates back to 1790. Tipu Sultan' battalion was stationed in
the then Kovan Puthur, now called Coimbatore. It is believed that
the Goddess Dhandumariamman appeared in the dreams of one of the
soldiers and told him about her abode, which is near their tent.
Though the soldier realised that it was a dream he went in search of
the place he saw in his dream. To his astonishment he found a
similar place and discovered the idol of the goddess amidst the
shrubs, near the spring. After which the news was spread and a
temple was built for the goddess in that place. Since then the
Goddess has been bestowing her blessings from this place. The temple
is kept open from 6.00 AM to 1.00 PM and 4.00 PM to 9.00 PM. The
office functions from 9.45 AM to 5.45 PM.
Sree
Ayyappa Temple
Sree Aayappa Temple situated is in Sree Aayappa road,
Sidhapudur, Coimbatore. The temple was built in 1976 by the Trust
called Sri Dharma Sastha Baktha Jana Sabha. The trust wanted to
build an Aayappa temple in Coimbatore similar to that of the one in
Sabarimala. And their wish was realised.
The poojas and
other religious rituals are observed similar to the fashion in
Sabarimala. The temple is open from 5.00 AM to 9.00 PM. Daily Poojas
are done in the early hours and in the evening. Seasonal Poojas are
done on a large scale during Sabarimala season.
The Sharadambal temple
The Sharadambal temple in Coimbatore was built in 1979 by
the then Peedathipathi of Sharada Matt of Shringeri. The temple
enshrines Goddess Sharadhambal. It is believed that the Goddess is
very powerful and she grants the wishes of her devotees. The temple
has small shrines for Lord Ganesha, Lord Muruga and Guru Adi
Shankarar. Navarathri is the main festival that is celebrated with
pomp and grandeur. All nine days the temple hosts 'kolu' and
conducts special poojas and celebrations like Bhajans and dances.
The temple has a Kalyana Mandapam and the Trust that maintains the
temple is planning to start a Veda Pada Salai to teach Vedas and
Upanishads in Sanskrit.
Lord Vinayagar
is the residing deity of Eechanari Temple. The temple is at Pollachi
Main Road, Eechanari. The idol that is 6 feet tall with 3 feet
breadth was being transited from Madurai to Perur, during which the
wheel of the conveyance gave away at Eechanari. Efforts to take the
idol to Perur did not help. So it came to stay in Eechanari.

Eechanari Vinayagar Temple
The temple was completed on 03.06.77. The temple has a
committee to administer the poojas and functions. The temple is kept
open between 5.00AM to 10.00PM. The special pooja for the idol is
done at 6.30 AM and at 6.30 PM everyday. Special poojas are done
during Kiruthikai, Poornima, Amavasya and Chathurthi. The buses with
any of the following numbers will bring you to Eechanari from
Coimbatore: 12, 12A, 12B, 12C, 12D, 12E, 73, 33, 33A, 33C, 33B, 33E,
71, 47, 84, 84A, 84B, 106, 106A.
Karamadai Ranganathar Temple
It is situated at Karamadai 16 kms away from Coimbatore
City. This was built before the arrival of the British. A colourful
festival is celebrated in this temple
Mar Thoma Syrian Church
Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Coimbatore was constructed in
1949 to commemorate St. Thomas' visit to India dating back to 52 A.D,
to spread Christianity. The Church's head office functions at
Tiruvalla, Kerala. The Church conducts regular Holy Communion
services and has founded different organisations to cater to all age
groups of the community. The organisations engage the members in
various social activities and there are about 250 families,
associated with the Church, involve themselves in such services.
Divyodaya Inter Religious Center
Divyodaya is an Inter Religious centre sponsered by the CMI (
Carmelites of Mary Immaculate ) Preshitha province, Coimbatore.
Divyodaya as the word denotes stands for Divine Awakening. It is
dedicated to promote brotherhood among people irrespective of caste,
creed, and community. DIVYODAYA holds weekely inter-religious prayer
meetings, Religious dis courses, Yearly inter-religious live
together. SANGAMAM, a unit of Divyodaya conducts Music, Yoga, Spoken
English, Karate and Meditation classes. The unit also has active
Youth Wing, Women' Wing and Counselling Wing engaging the
participants in Leadership training camps, Inter school
competitions, Out reach programmes and seminars.
