The Galta, Jaipur The picturesque gorge at Galta plunges from the summit of a range of hills to the east of Jaipur. Many temples dot the hill slope, which is crowned by the temple of the Sun god. From this temple, an impressive view of Jaipur can be had. The tanks and the many pavilions here enhance the beauty of the spot. Legend associates the place, a principal seat of the Ramanand sect of Vaishnavites, with sage Galava who performed his penance there.

The temple of the Sun god at Galta is located at an elevation of 100
metres above Jaipur to the east. After a 2-½ km climb from Suraj Pol
at Amber Fort, one reaches the place, where the holiest spot is the
Galta Kund, a tank created by the waters of a natural spring. Here
the water flowing through the mouth of a carved stone cow, the
Gaumukh, fills seven tanks. This water is believed to be sacred and
have curative powers.
