km. North-west of Jaisalmer is Amar sagar .An enchanting place
beside a lake,with mango and other fruit trees.The dam made of
massive blocks of golden sandstone with big stone elephants and
horses here is a remarkable work of craftmenship On one side of the
dam is beautiful lake with many beautifully carved wells, Chhatrie
and Jain temples and on another side of the dam is a Royal palace,
Shiva temple,a beautiful swimming pool and a garden with palm and
fruit trees. Maharawal Amar Singh of Jaisalmer built this beautiful
place in 1740 A.D. He built a lake and a Shiva temple.The Shiva
temple was constructed purposefully near the lake so that after a
dip, the king could go and worship in the temple..This lake is the
real oasis in the desert.There are three Jain temples on the bank of
the lake.One of the best, Adeshwar Nath Jain temple was built by
Himmat Ram Ji Baphana in 1928 A.D.The front portion of this temple
is beautifully carved in different designs.One projection made of
white marble above the Adeshwar temple attracts everyone.All the
beautifully carved mansions are made of yellow sandstone.Exquisitely
carved Jain Temples enhance the aura of the place. |
