Manikaran Kullu

At an altitude of 1,740 m at a distance of 50 km from Kullu via Bhuntar, Manikaran is famous spot in the Parvati Valley for its hot water springs, trout fishing, Ramchandraji's temple and a Gurudwara . It is motorable upto Manikaran and rest 200 mtr on foot. Thousands of Hindu and Sikh pilgrims have their dip in the hot waters. It is believed to be radioactive and good for such diseases as rheumatism, gout, bronchitis, pneumonia and muscular pains. The water is to hot even rice, dall and vegetables can be boiled.

The story behind the hot springs as such told by the people was, Goddess Parvati once bathed here in the river with her consort Mahadeva. She laid her ear-rings upon the bank and Naga, the serpent god, stole them to his home beneath the earth. Mahadeva was very angry and threatened Naga. The Naga snorted with rage, blowing the jewels out of his nostrils, with such force that they flew through the earth to Parvati again. And from the holes they made, the springs have bubbled ever since.
