Gomukh Temple

Located about 2 miles from Mount Abu, this is the site of the ancient agnicunda, where the great fire rite is said to have been carried out by the Brahmins. This temple contains the images of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna, both of whom are considered to have been incarnations of Vishnu, "The preserver" of the Hindu trinity. The name "Gomukh" literally means "cow's face", referring to a spring here which flows through a rock carved in the shape of a cow's mouth.
The spring water said to have sacred, purifying properties, is taken home by pilgrims. Achalgarh Fort The ruins of this 15th-century fort built by the warrior king, Rana Kumbha, who conquered Mount Abu from its Chauhan rulers, lies 5 miles from Mount Abu. This was one of a girdle of thirty-two forts that he constructed all over Mewar in order to secure the kingdom against the invaders. From its crumbling battlements there is a superb view of the surrounding plains. Nearby are the remains of several ancient temples. Of these, the most interesting is the 15th century temple of Lord Shiva, where you are shown what is said to be Lord Shiva's toenail. It is unusual for a Shiva temple, as it does not have a characteristic Shivalinga, instead there is a deep pit that is believed to lead straight down into the underworld.
